The leading theme of this year's HSMA eDay was 'Overcoming the Corona crisis in the hotel industry together'.

HSMA Deutschland e.V. hosted the event for the German-speaking hotel market at the Mercure Hotel MOA in Berlin. Digital Marketing, eCommerce, new technologies, and Revenue Management were the focal topics of the hybrid conference for hoteliers. The industry event was streamed live and hundreds of attendees joined the hybrid event virtually, as well.

25 acknowledged industry experts joined as speakers for the HSMA eDay 2020, and shared their insights and expertise with the audience. Christian Meissner, Senior Director Distribution Products & Digital Payments at Deutsche Hospitality and Director and Member of the HSMA Marketing & Distribution Board, hosted and guided the audience and speakers through the day.

Dr. Silke Seemann, Owner of Hallstatt Hideaway Private Suites and Austrian Hideaways, opened the event with her presentation about the specifics of the current situation and how the hotel industry can manage and benefit from those.

Digitization in Hotels & Communication

Nadja Dahlmann, Head of Marketing & PR at the Empire Riverside Hotel and Hafen Hotel in Hamburg spoke about digitization in hotels. Hotel software and systems should support or simplify communication with guests. Nadja shared why according to her a common mistake when selecting a system is that communication is rarely considered as a main selection criterion.

Peter Hense, Lawyer and Partner at Spirit Legal LLP gave a legal update, covering topics such as distribution law between hotels, tour operators, whole sales and online travel agencies (OTAs); his perspectives on data protection - from annoying nuisance to motivating element in terms of quality assurance; prices, law and competition - discussing opportunities and limits of personalized pricing through loyalty programs and dynamic pricing.

The HSMA eDay 2020 took place in the Mercure Hotel MOA in Berlin.

The team around General Manager Paolo Masaracchia and Conny Doß showed to an entire industry how to host a hybrid conference with more than 100 attendees during a pandemic.
